What is the scope of TEIS?

Telemedicine and e-health are terms that are applied to the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in medicine, health and social care delivery. As such, the subject divides into two main areas:

  1. improvements to existing services in terms of their efficiency and effectiveness - for example, pathology, radiology, education and training, and Electronic Patient Records
  2. new service delivery development - for example, teledermatology, teleophthalmology.

For our purposes, we define our area of interest as those applications that:

The projects and other information included in this database focus on the use of the technology to bring new services to patients in hospitals, GP surgeries and in the home. TEIS includes not only those projects that are providing telemedical services to patients, but also lists research and development work on the infrastructure required to support telemedicine. The database includes details of the growing number of commercial organisations in the United Kingdom that market telemedicine hardware and/or services. Your feedback is welcomed. You can send us your comments by email.
